sorry everyone, fell off the wagon for a bit! Mom Stratton
Hello!! I hope everyone is having a good week!(: I don't know that much has happened since last Tuesday.. After I emailed, we went grocery shopping and then we hung up flyers for our English Class! We had a dinner appointment with an investigator that went well! It was 추석, {Korean equivalent of thanksgiving, but it is HUGE} so after the meal, we shared testimony and talked about things we are grateful for. We went with the elders, they have a good relationship with this lady. She is Buddhist, and has two sons. One is serving right now in 군대 {required military for EVERY guy} and the other is serving a mission in Seoul! Last time we went over to her house, we sang her a song, and she said something like 'if you sing songs like that, i will think about coming to church' whaaat? (: She loves the missionaries so much. It was a good night. 추석 is a really big thing here, and they give huge presents and gift baskets and it's like christmas. They eat 3 HUGE meals a day for 3 days. it's crazy.

This 추석 gift box of SPAM, is priced for $42. I'm serious. It's a big deal here. Also, apples that must be from the tree of life:for 10 apples, $45. Again, I'm serious. Our bishop even got us 추석 presents! 6 tubes of toothpaste!! , a body wash, shampoo&conditioner, and a bar of soap. This kind of stuff is typical gift boxes haha. Also, another fun fact, when someone is moving into a new house, they receive toilet paper as a house-warming gift. How nice (: |
Wednesday, we had mission tour. When i first got here and heard about mission tour, i was stoked. I was like, "oh sweet! we get a tour of the mission! A member of the 70 takes us around and shows us the Busan Mission! Well, that is not what it is. We were in meetings all day. Granted, they were really good meetings. Our mission president and his lovely wife spoke to us, Elder Koichi Aoyagi, from Japan and his ADORABLE wife spoke to us. They both speak English. Sister Aoyagi gave her whole talk in English, and it was very good! So cute! Elder Aoyagi had a translator come with him. He was a Korean, who served a mission in Japan, and spoke perfect english. So Elder Aoyagi spoke in Japanese, it was translated from Japanese into English, and then on one side of the chapel were the 6-7 Korean missionaries and one of the American elders was translating from English to Korean. Some 3-way translation there and it was intense. It was really good though! * also, my district did a musical number that turned out really good(: yay!
On Thursday, we visited a member who is from the Philippines, who is about to have a baby any time! We talked with her and I shared a short message about the example that mothers are to daughters, and I bore testimony about how important that relationship is. We had a lesson with two kids that night too. Their dad was baptized several months ago, and their mom is not a member. As we were talking about next week being the last time Burgoyne 자매님 was going to be here, they said that next week, they are going to buy a cake, and we are going to have a party. They were so cute, and said that they were going to use their 추석 money!
Saturday night, and Sunday, we had Stake Conference. Saturday night, there was no translator.. So that was rough. hahah Sunday, there was a translator, and he spoke really good english, but the speakers were all talking too fast for him, so he didnt end up translating a lot.. hahah. But from what i understood, it was a really good Stake Conference! haha. This time next year, i will be able to understand. Also, after conference, there was a baptism! {they often do baptisms on Sunday here..} My companion and I were asked on very short notice to help with a musical number. Burgoyne 자매님 played the piano and I sang haha. The girl getting baptized, she was 18, had to do it 7 times! The elders didn't fill the font enough. It only went up to right above his knees! So obviously it was a struggle getting her all the way under hahahahah XD it was good though. She was patient and the spirit was still felt.
Shorter right? I hope you all have a wonderful week and enjoy your normal priced apples!! haha I love you all and am so grateful for the various ways that you have impacted my life! (:
